Games such as MECHANIX Robotix and Gamebots put a competitive twist on the original videogame concept, turning the classic top-down shooter games like Doom and Robo Squad into a simple fight-and-be-killed machine chasing, jumping, killing and running around a futuristic city.

With only two different types of weaponry, lots of ranged fighting and laser tags (three kinds, including robot assassin darts and intercontinental laser missiles) thrown into the mix, the gameplay gets really interesting once you get into the more melee oriented gameplay.

At first, this may not sound like a particularly deep, engrossing game to play. However, the game actually has some intricate game mechanics that take time to master, especially the intercontinental laser weapons (which are almost exclusively used for street-fighting by the other robot masters in the game) and robot combat mechanics, which require players to target the robot’s head to disable it for good and put it into its death trap. This makes gameplay in Robotix a little different from most games out there, and provides a different, more dynamic experience, taking players in a fast-paced game that they can barely wrap their head around at first, all the way to the end.
